Maybe your pooch is more of a woof walker?

May 26th, 2010 by beachdog.com | 0

The Rotary Clubs of Astoria and Warrenton Sunrise are joining forces to produce the inaugural “Columbia Canines Woof Walk” on August 7th in Astoria.  The event takes place along the Riverwalk, between the Red Building and the Columbia River Maritime Museum, where participants can stroll at their own pace and have their entry card stamped by volunteers.  Walk both directions, or take the dog-friendly trolley one way.  At the end, enjoy vendors and performers.  You KNOW we’ll be there!

Keleigh designed and illustrated the collateral package for the event, from logo to postcard, brochure, posters, entry form and website.  Who do you think was her inspiration?

A DOGGONE GOOD TIME!

May 25th, 2010 by beachdog.com | 0

In just one month, Long Beach’s Doggie Olympic Games will be putting smiles on the faces of a hundred or so dogs and their owners.  Keleigh designed the event brochure and registration form, which is available through our office or the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau:

Doggie Olympic Games

She also designed a carbon-less registration form to use on the beach;  it lets the registrant keep a copy as a receipt, which includes the full text of the release they agree to at registration.  We can create custom, affordable carbon-less forms in all the popular sizes.

Speaking of the City of Long Beach…

May 19th, 2010 by beachdog.com | 0

We built a web site for the City of Long Beach quite a few years ago, which had been well-maintained by city staff.   The time had come, however, to do some serious housecleaning, and to bring the site into the social media generation.   We gave them an installation of WordPress and transferred the data from the old site into the new one.  A little tweaking, fresh photos, functional plug-ins… whoosh!  A new site was born!

longbeachwa.gov

Long Beach citizen volunteer Mark Perez has been hard at work editing the site’s content and developing new pages.  Longbeachwa.gov grows more comprehensive and useful every day!

At the same time, Tourism & Event Coordinator Ragan Andrew envisioned a section of the site dedicated to package travel and tour operators. She, along with Councilman Jerry Phillips and contractor Melody Johnson, designed the site structure & function, including a password-protected area. The “scrapbook-y” look and feel of the micro site was inspired by a sales book Ragan had developed.

They’re thrilled with the results, and that makes us very happy!

A Map of Discovery Trail!

May 18th, 2010 by beachdog.com | 0

Discovery Trail Map

We’re pretty excited about our new map of Discovery Trail.  It’s a glorious trail; winding through the dunes with gentle slopes and curves, spectacular ocean views and watchable wildlife as well.    There are wonderful interpretive displays, from the 18-foot bronze tree at the northern terminus to the artist’s complementary bronze condor at the southern tip.  In between are displays, monolith, sculptures, even a re-articulated whale skeleton.

The City of Long Beach QR Code project serves as a great self-guided tour of the trail and its markers.  If you haven’t taken the tour, grab a smart phone and head out!

Now that the 8-mile trail is finished, we wanted to create a user-friendly map that showed distances between trail heads, interpretive markers, and difficulty levels.  We’re pretty proud of how it came out, thanks to the help of Ralph and David at the City of Long Beach.  Ralph did all the measuring and David triple-checked placement of markers for bridges and interpretive markers. Pacific County Friends of Lewis & Clark get credit for having developed the icon in the upper left panel.  Look for the icons throughout the bi-state Lewis and Clark Historical Parks.

The map was printed thanks to Una at the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau.  She found budget to print it on the back side of the Peninsula maps her organization distributes.  As a result, there are just over 77,000 of the maps now on the Peninsula.  Members of the Visitors Bureau can pick some up to distribute from their businesses and anyone can drop in and pick up a copy for their own use.

We hope you enjoy the map, and even more, the trail!

Remember Henry?

Moses & Henry

We just love getting updates on the beachdogs (human or canine!) who are no longer in our kennel, er, office.

The photo above is of Moses and Henry (right), enjoying a lounge in the sunshine yesterday morning.  Henry was a beachdog last winter after arriving at our local shelter severely under weight.  Giant breeds have special nutritional requirements while they’re growing, and Danes don’t do well separated from people, so we brought this teen hunka hunka burnin’ love home while petfinder.com did its magic to find him a new family.

When Henry’s new mom brought Moses to meet Henry to see if they were a good fit, we had quite a surprise.  Moses, it turns out, spent time at the same Dane rescue (DDRI in Oregon) as our Lilly.  They were even there at the same time!  Mos isn’t deaf or blind, but he had suffered serious gunshot wounds and was at DDRI for some extra special TLC while recovering.

It’s wonderful to hear that both boys are doing extremely well and have bonded deeply.  Mom Sarah tells us they’re inseparable.  THAT is music to our ears!
