North, to Oysterville!

Sydney Stevens doesn’t rest on her laurels.

A published author long before her ‘retirement’ from a career in public education, Sydney continues to be a prolific writer and speaker on Peninsula history.  Her books are widely read and loved, and staples to lovers of the Peninsula.

Retired.  History.  Small Town.  These aren’t the words you would normally associate with a person who proactively phones their webmaster asking for tips on social online marketing.  And yet, that’s exactly what Sydney did (envision a group of beaming beachdogs)!

Her site wasn’t very old, and Keleigh’s original design, based on Sydney’s Dear Medora, was holding up well, so Karl and Sabrina re-created the look and feel of the site in WordPress.  This allowed them to make the site mobile- and social-friendly with some functional plug-ins.  Sydney got some tips on using facebook for business, and we connected her site and facebook.  For a fairly minimal investment, she can now easily edit her own site, and her fans can easily interact with her.  All that linking and fresh content has done good things to her search rank, too.

Kudos, Sydney.  That’s smart marketing!

Wow! I just ran across this mention of me (last May!) on your website. Awesome! Thanks! If you ever want to mention specifics about the increases in my statistics (which I think are great, but I don’t have anything to compare with) you certainly can!

Your stats are increasing nicely, Sydney! I can tell you’re working hard at getting your website address out to people because more than 80% of visits to your site are coming through bookmarks, email links, and typing the address into the browser directly. It’s also clear that you’re working your facebook presence because, of the remaining inbound links, more than 2/3 are coming from that venue. Your work is paying off!

You would benefit from finding other sites with which to partner, exchanging links and talking about one another. Inbound links from sites that are talking about the same subjects as you are invaluable in terms of improving your search engine presence and just plain getting new visitors to your site. The best inbound link would be more than just a link; it would be a bit of text about you (your site) and use one or more of your key phrases (author Oysterville WA, for example).

    Happy holiday wishes to you!
